Teacher in Charge: S. Grace
Who is this subject intended for:
Students who have studied at Level 2 Physical Education or Outdoor Education (by agreement with Mr Grace).
This is a combined academic and physical subject where students need to be a focused performer of all sports in order to achieve highly. Students have come onto this course in the past without studying at Level 1 or 2 and found the course very difficult, please discuss with Mr Grace if you are unsure whether this course is for you. Around 20 credits can be achieved.
What you will learn in this subject:
A refinement of physical and psychological skills related to concepts within the performance of sport will be built upon during this course. Students will be extended academically with research and the practical application of anatomy, biomechanics and physiology. Students will also have to evaluate their own performance and those of others in a group context.
This course is broken into three units of work worth 20 credits:
o Planning and evaluating a physical activity programme
o Performance improvement
o Actions influencing the participation of others
Where this subject will lead:
Students wishing to study sport at university, whilst other professions require elements that are taught within the Physical Education subject areas. Consider researching the requirements of Nursing, Radiography, Physiotherapy and other heath related careers.

What you need to be able to do and know to achieve in this subject:
Good organisational skills will help to ensure success as well as a willingness to go beyond what is taught in class, both physically and academically. Coaching others and applying knowledge to make improvements in your own performance is essential. An ability to research, discuss problems and create solutions that work is an invaluable skill. Students are reminded that this is a practical course with the many lessons being physical, consequently those students with long term injuries need to discuss their intentions and commitment to the course with Mr Grace.
