Who is this subject intended for:
This course aims to create an opportunity to prepare students to achieve a qualification in Te Reo Māori that will provide the building blocks for future success in their studies.

What you will learn in this subject:
Students will build on what they have learned in Years 7-9 and increase their confidence and knowledge as a speaker of Te Reo, through the language modes of:
○ Whakarongo (Listening)
○ Kōrero (Speaking)
○ Pānui (Reading)
○ Tuhituhi (Writing)
○ Whakaatu (Presenting)
○ Mātakitaki (Viewing)

Student workbooks - $20, Student subscription to Language perfect - $15 (strongly recommended), Noho Marae costs (to be advised).

Recommended Prior Learning What you need to be able to do and know to achieve in this subject: To achieve in this subject students would need to have a sound foundation of Te Reo Māori from Years 7-9. Students should have a desire to learn Te Reo me ngā tikanga o te ao Māori. Good organisational skills will help to ensure success, as well as a willingness to go beyond what is taught in class. Students will need access to the internet, be able to communicate through email on a regular basis and to be able to effectively manage their own learning. There is an expectation that study and homework will be completed regularly. Please note that this course may be delivered through the Virtual Learning Network or correspondence and will therefore require students to work independently.
