Year 12 Outdoor Education

Who is this subject intended for:
Students who are keen on physical activity and are looking for different experiences that can build on their leadership and interpersonal skills. This is a Unit Standard course and students can expect to achieve up to 20 credits.
What you will learn in this subject:
A variety of outdoor skills that will allow you to build on personal interests and give you the confidence to experience the New Zealand High Country.
o Tramping, camping and navigation
o Mountain biking
o Rock climbing and abseiling.
Where this subject will lead:
Students from this course have considered Outdoor Instruction as a course at Polytechnic, military, police etc. whilst others have enjoyed the enrichment activities and found newly emerged confidence in themselves.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
Course fees included, camps and some equipment hire are anticipated to be around $500 in 2018
Recommended Prior Learning
What you need to be able to do and know to achieve in this subject:
Good organisational skills will help to ensure success as well as your personal safety. A good level of fitness is a prerequisite. Some basic equipment should be owned soon after starting the course such as well fitted boots, poly props, wet weather gear and sleeping bag. A long term injury or serious medical condition will need to be disclosed to Mr Grace before acceptance on this course
