Year 12 Physical Education and Outdoor Education

Course Description

Who is this subject intended for:
Students who have studied at Level 1 Physical Education and achieved 14 credits.
This is a combined academic and physical subject where students need to be focused performers of numerous sports in order to achieve highly. Students often come onto this course without realising the academic rigour needed for success, please discuss with Mr Grace if you are unsure whether this course is for you. Around 20 credits can be achieved.


What you will learn in this subject:
•Skills:
A variety of physical skills related to concepts with in physical movement will be built upon during this course but students will be extended academically with anatomy, biomechanics and physiology having major components in this course. Students will also have to evaluate their own performance and those of others in a group context
•Content:
This course is broken into two units of work worth around 20 credits
oSocial and group processes in sport
oPerformance Improvement and Sport performance.


Where this subject will lead:
Students wishing to study sport at University require 14 credits from Physical Education, whilst other professions require elements that are taught within the Physical Education subject areas. Consider researching the requirements of nursing, radiography, physiotherapy and other heath related careers.

Recommended Prior Learning

What you need to be able to do and know to achieve in this subject:
Good organisational skills are essential to ensure success as well as a willingness to go beyond what is taught in class – students can extend themselves by using the resources in the library and by researching topics online. Coaching others and applying knowledge to make improvements in your own performance is essential. An ability to discuss problems and create solutions that work is an invaluable skill.
Students are reminded that this is a practical course with the majority of lessons being physical, consequently those students with long term injuries need to discuss their intentions and commitment to the course with Mr Grace.
